Engine reconditioning overview

Cylinder Block Reconditioning

Strip, inspect, measure and machine the engine's foundation. We recondition cylinder blocks for rebuilds — cleaning, crack detection, boring and honing, deck surfacing and, where needed, line boring of the main bearing housings.

Restore sealing, gas flow and valve operation. We recondition cylinder heads for rebuilds — strip, clean, crack inspection, pressure testing, valve and seat work, and precision surfacing.

Cut and finish cylinders to exact size with the correct surface finish. Boring removes the wear and taper; honing produces the plateau finish new rings need to seat.

A nine-step reconditioning process

Every PRT rebuild follows the same disciplined route. Measurement sits between inspection and machining — no component is machined before the numbers justify it.

    Receive

    The engine or component is received, identified and its rebuild requirement is recorded.

    Disassemble

    The unit is stripped down so every part can be inspected on its own merits.

    Clean

    Components are cleaned so surfaces, passages and damage can be assessed honestly.

    Inspect

    Crack detection and visual inspection decide what is reusable and what is not.

  5. 05

    Measure

    Bores, journals, decks and housings are measured against the specification.

    Machine

    Only the metal that must be removed is removed — to bring each surface back into spec.

    Reassemble

    Clean, measured components are assembled in the correct sequence with correct clearances.

    Inspect / Test

    The finished unit is checked and verified before it is signed off.

What is engine reconditioning?

Engine reconditioning returns a worn engine or its major components to serviceable condition by machining and rebuilding them to specification — rather than replacing the whole engine. It covers stripping, cleaning, inspection, measurement, machining of critical surfaces and reassembly.

What is the difference between a normal repair and a recondition?
