Engine Reconditioning

Engine reconditioning — a full rebuild, or a single machining job

Engine reconditioning returns a worn engine to serviceable condition by measuring it, machining worn surfaces back into specification and rebuilding it cleanly. PRT Engine Reconditioning carries out the full route in Salem, Tamil Nadu — from a complete diesel or petrol engine rebuild to a single component machined to the same standard.

Overview

What engine reconditioning actually involves

Reconditioning is not a single repair and it is not guesswork. An engine is stripped to its components, every component is cleaned and inspected, and the critical surfaces are measured against their specification. Only then is metal removed — and only where measurement shows it must be.

The reconditioned engine is assembled from components that have been inspected, measured and machined as a matched set, with clearances and torque applied in the correct sequence. The result is a rebuild that is decided by the numbers, documented as it is built.

The PRT standard

Inspect. Measure. Machine. Rebuild.

Every job — full engine or single component — runs through the same disciplined route so the outcome is repeatable.

  • 01 Receive & disassemble
  • 02 Clean & inspect
  • 03 Measure to spec
  • 04 Machine worn surfaces
  • 05 Reassemble & test

The machining services

Every stage of the recondition, handled in-house

Each of these services is a controlled operation on its own and a stage of a full engine recondition. Open any service to see what is inspected, measured and machined.

Cylinder Block Reconditioning

Strip, inspect, measure and machine the engine's foundation. We recondition cylinder blocks for rebuilds — cleaning, crack detection, boring and honing, deck surfacing and, where needed, line boring of the main bearing housings.

View service

Cylinder Head Reconditioning

Restore sealing, gas flow and valve operation. We recondition cylinder heads for rebuilds — strip, clean, crack inspection, pressure testing, valve and seat work, and precision surfacing.

View service

Crankshaft Grinding

Restore worn journals to size and true running geometry. Crankshaft grinding returns main and crankpin journals to specification for use with matching undersize bearings.

View service

Connecting Rod Reconditioning

Restore rod bores, alignment and fastener condition. We check, measure and recondition connecting rods so each rod is straight, correctly sized and ready for the rebuilt assembly.

View service

Engine Boring & Honing

Cut and finish cylinders to exact size with the correct surface finish. Boring removes the wear and taper; honing produces the plateau finish new rings need to seat.

View service

Line Boring

Restore alignment of bearing housings in one continuous set-up. Line boring re-machines main bearing bores so every saddle shares one true axis with the crankshaft.

Engine Assembly

A controlled, clean, torque-accurate build. We assemble reconditioned engines from measured components — so the finished unit leaves the shop built to specification and ready to run.

Component by component

Where each part of the engine is reconditioned

A full rebuild hands each major component to the right operation. These pages explain the measurement and machining behind each one.

Full recondition

Complete engine rebuild

The whole engine passes through the PRT process and is handed back rebuilt. Right when an engine is worth more rebuilt than replaced, and the block and head are serviceable.

  • Strip, clean and full inspection
  • Measurement of every critical surface
  • Machining of worn components
  • Assembled with verified clearances

Component machining

Single machining job

One component — a crankshaft, a head, a block — machined to the standard required by the rest of the rebuild, then returned.

  • Inspected and measured on arrival
  • Machined to the required size/spec
  • Verified after machining
  • Returned ready for assembly

FAQ

Reconditioning, explained

What is the difference between a full recondition and component machining?

A full recondition takes the whole engine through the PRT process — strip, clean, inspect, measure, machine and reassemble. Component machining covers one piece of that route, such as grinding a crankshaft or reconditioning a head, carried to the same standard.

Is the engine supplied to PRT, or does PRT supply the engine?

A recondition usually starts with your own engine or its components. Where a built unit is required, the specification is agreed first and confirmed from the actual work. Availability and lead times are confirmed on enquiry.

Which engine types can be reconditioned?

PRT carries out petrol and diesel engine reconditioning work. The correct scope for a specific engine is confirmed from the actual unit, its condition and its specification — the detail lives with the job, not with a generic claim.
